Easier does NOT equal better

I had a loving but concerned family member ask me today...

"Why would you want to adopt a special needs child when you could adopt a healthy one?? A special needs child is going to be hard, take attention away from the girls and he might have underlying problems that no one will tell you about till it's too late!"

The person that said this means well...I know that. But it's definitely not the first time I have heard it over the last 4 months since we started the process to bring Andrey home.

"Once our eyes are opened, we can't pretend
we don't know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and
keeps our souls, knows what we know, and holds
US responsible to act..." Proverbs 24:12

We know God has a heart for the "least of these". THESE (special needs children) are the ones that we feel God would take care of first...so should we not do the same?! Now, I am not saying that a special needs adoption is any more important than adopting a healthy child...but for US in OUR situation...with what God has called US to do....it is.

Easier does NOT equal better

These are children that society has deemed unimportant...they will never be able to contribute to society so why waste money giving them medications or caring for them; they are indispensable in their country. Children in the Ukraine (and all over) are dying from simple ear infections because no one will provide them with the medication they need so the infection spreads.

We are by no means 100% certain that everything will go wonderfully. In fact, more likely than not things won't go according to plan and our expectations probably wont even come close to reality. We do know without a doubt that it will be the most stressful hard difficult obstacle driven...no, worth while experience we could ever hope for...and we embrace that fact.

So in the sense of giving a specific reason as to why we choose special needs adoption...I have none. None other than it is what the Lord has called us to do and in him we will trust and obey.

And it's all MORE than worth it!
